Culture Diagnostics and Organisation Assessment

Culture surveys tell you what people feel. Culture diagnostics tell you why — and what system conditions are producing the pattern. Kriate uses validated instruments and consulting practice to diagnose culture at the system level.

What It Means

What is a Culture Diagnostic?

A Culture Diagnostic is a structured, evidence-based assessment of the values, beliefs, behaviours, and system conditions that shape how an organisation actually operates — as distinct from how it intends to operate. It uses validated instruments, qualitative methods, and organisation-system analysis to identify the root conditions beneath cultural symptoms.

The Problem

What culture misalignment looks like

What the CEO sees

The culture feels fragmented, cautious, or politically charged — but the cause is unclear. Culture initiatives have been launched but have not changed the lived experience. The organisation says the right things but does not do them. The gap between stated and lived culture is widening.

What the CHRO sees

Culture surveys have been run but the results are not actionable. The data shows what is wrong but not why. Interventions have been designed based on the symptoms, not the cause. The culture is not changing — and the organisation does not know what to change first.

Kriate's Advisory Approach

How Kriate conducts Culture Diagnostics

Kriate uses a multi-method diagnostic approach — combining validated instruments with qualitative depth to produce a diagnosis that is both rigorous and actionable.

01

DOCS Assessment

The Denison Organisational Culture Survey measures four culture traits — Involvement, Consistency, Adaptability, and Mission — and their relationship to performance outcomes.

02

OCAI Assessment

The Organisational Culture Assessment Instrument maps the current and preferred culture across four quadrants — Clan, Adhocracy, Market, and Hierarchy.

03

Leadership Interviews

Structured interviews with senior leaders to understand the strategic context, the presenting symptoms, and the leadership's own experience of the culture.

04

Focus Groups

Facilitated focus groups across levels and functions to understand the lived experience of culture — the stories, patterns, and unwritten rules.

05

Process Labs

Observed working sessions that reveal how the culture actually operates in practice — decision-making, conflict, collaboration, and accountability in real time.

06

Integrated Diagnosis

We synthesise all data sources into an integrated diagnosis — identifying the specific system conditions (structure, authority, leadership behaviour, performance) that are producing the cultural pattern.

Expected Outcomes

What Culture Diagnostics delivers

  • A rigorous, evidence-based diagnosis of the current culture
  • Identification of the system conditions producing the cultural pattern
  • A gap analysis between current and required culture
  • Actionable intervention priorities — not just survey data
  • Shared leadership understanding of the cultural diagnosis
  • A baseline for measuring culture change over time
  • Clarity on which levers to pull — and in what sequence
  • A culture change roadmap grounded in the diagnosis
  • Reduced risk of culture interventions that address symptoms, not causes
